Anger and Sloth
By: Mir-Zombie
Melvin stared into the audience as the curtains closed. He waited till he was sure the cameras were off and quickly exhaled loudly and sarcastically. He set his microphone down on the table set out and grabbed a handful of popcorn out of a giant bowl.  The game show contestants were busy getting their microphones taken off and chatting about how close they were to winning. Melvin usually would join and talk about how he wished they all could have won. Today he paid no attention to this because he was very tired and wanted to get home and rest. Melvin was a handsome man who all the girls adored.  He hosted a game show called "Let's See Who Wins". Normally, it's very fun and he enjoys it, but today he was just tired. He walked out to the parking lot and saw his giant sloth waiting for him. He hopped on its back and said, "Let's go home boy."
The giant sloth started to run towards Melvin's house. "How was the show today, Melv?"
"Oh, the show was good. I'm just really tired today Joey." Melvin said to his sloth.
The rest of the way home the two kept quiet. On a regular day the weird stares at the two headed home wouldn't bother Melvin, today, however, they did. Today they made him very angry and he could feel his face get hot with anger.  He had never been an angry person but today that seemed to change. He didn't want those people to stare and he was tempted to make them stop.  He shook it off and tried to ignore those feelings the rest of the way home.
Melvin was sitting in his room watching TV when his least favorite show came on. He grunted and felt around for the remote. When he couldn't find it he got very angry. "JOEY!" He shouted.
Joey came in and picked the remote up off the nightstand. "It's right here. Wow, I'm a sloth and I'm not as lazy as you."
That comment really sunk into Melvin's brain. He seemed so lazy and bitter. He had never acted this way before. He immediately got up and when to his workout room. He jumped on the treadmill and started to run. This made him feel a little less bad about what he was becoming. He couldn't understand his new found problems though. He had always been a delightful person to be around. All the girls always wanted him because he was handsome and nice at the same time. Melvin remembered one girl in particular who told him, "I'm the best you'll ever have. If it's not me, it's nobody."
Melvin never really took the threat to heart but now looking back at the memory he remembers her having oddly pointy shoes, almost like a witch. He told himself that was a silly thought and went back to running. The more he ran the more he thought about the girl. He remembered he long silky black hair flowing past her slim shoulders. He remembered the way her eyes had a slight sparkle in them and how green they were. He thought about the way she long black dress sat just above her knees and it wasn't covered in fuzz like other black clothes would be. Melvin couldn't help but want to see the girl again. Then he thought harder and realized her never found out her name. He stopped running and tried to focus on remembering her name. He shook his head; he had to find out her name. To other this might not be important but he wasn't going to stop until he found her. That was the moment in his life her decided to quit being a game show host and become a private eye.
Several years passed with no sign of the girl. He had been handling cases for a long time, all of them got cracked. Joey was his partner and together they solved crime easy. Melvin was still working on his laziness and anger but he was doing better.
One day while Melvin was working on a case the door opened. Everything seemed to get black and white and hard-boiled. The first thing that came through the door was a leg attached to a foot. The foot that came through the door was wearing a black pointed shoe. Melvin stood up at his desk and stared in disbelief. The next thing that came through was the girl Melvin had been looking for.
"I hear you solve crimes." She said and threw her cigarette on the floor and squished it in.
"That I do ma'am." Melvin said sitting down. He tried to act casual.
"Can you solve the mystery of my broken heart?" The girl said and looked up at him with that sparkle in her green eyes.
"You're the girl aren't you?" Melvin said losing his cool.
"I am that girl, and I told you that nobody would ever have you but me. How are your anger and sloth problems?" The girl asked
"Joey never causes me trouble. Oh! You mean the spell you put on me." Melvin said slyly.
The girl just giggled,"I knew you'd figure it out. The only thing you never figured out was my name. Guess my name and you may have me forever." She said daringly.
"Glinda?"  Melvin asked guessing.
This shocked the girl, "How did you know that?" she asked.
"I figured you were the good kind." Melvin said wriggling his eyebrows.
The girl laughed and everything seemed to go back to techni-color. Joey came in and demanded to hear the whole story. The two just looked at each other and laughed. After that Melvin was never angry and lazy again. He became the cheerful person he used to be and ever when back to hosting his game show. Sometime on the side he still solves mysteries though. The boy can't help it, he's hooked on conflicts.
I wrote this for school and got a 100. So, I just felt like posting it.
